Bon Ton Roulette

robert Ward

Robert Ward was an American blues and soul guitarist. He played the guitar with a unique tone soaked in vibrato coming from a Magnatone amplifier. Born in rural Georgia in 1938, Robert picked up his first guitar at age ten.  In the 1950’s, Robert opened for James Brown and Piano Red with the Brassettes. Robert moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1960 and formed the Ohio Untouchables. Robert wrote and sang “Love is Amazing”, which was first released in 1962. Also featured is Robert’s song “Strictly Reserved For You” from the “Fear No Evil” LP released in 1990. In the early 70’s, Robert worked as a session guitarist at Motown, playing behind the Temptations and The Undisputed Truth.  Robert left the music scene in the late 70’s and moved back to Georgia. Coming out of a low period in his life, he made his comeback in 1990. He was signed to Black Top Records, where he produced three albums. “Love is Amazing” was also featured on his “Fear No Evil” album released in 1990. Living in Dry Branch, Georgia with his second wife, Roberta, who contributed background vocals to his encore album, Robert resurfaced in 1997 with Twiggs County Soul and and New Role Soul. Robert passed away on Christmas day, 2008.
