Mighty Sam McClain

Born in 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana, Sam died in 2015. Black Top mastermind Hammond Scott told me that Sam evoked memories of Bobby Blue Bland....a gospel-influenced blues vocal delivery. Sam ran away from home at 13 and went on the road as a valet for a Chitlin' Circuit guitarist, and by age 15 he was a lead vocalist until 1981. He worked regular jobs until his inclusion on the Hubert Sumlin project in 1988 lead to a successful move to New England. He toured and recorded with the mighty guitarist Wayne Bennett (of Bobby Blue Bland fame). He was able to experience a successful recording career up to his passing.
