Magic Sam

Born Samuel Gene Maghett in 1937 in Grenada, Mississippi, Magic Sam relocated to Chicago around 1956 and recorded “All Your Love” for the Cobra label. His soaring vocals and versatile guitar playing simply breathed fire and, from all accounts, he was a gregarious and happy character, loved by all he encountered. He had successful tours of Europe and gave a landmark performance at the 1969 Ann Arbor Blues Festival. He is represented at the height of his artistic powers in Episode #7 on his epic Delmark recordings. It is an absolute tragedy that he died of a heart attack in 1969 at the age of 32, depriving the world of what would have been album after album of solid gold! We can only be thankful for what we have from this true American original.
