Hubert Sumlin

Known by millions as the musical fire propelling the great voice of Howling Wolf, Hubert Sumlin had a unique sound that he kept secret for decades....he incorporated an extra E string. Born in Greenwood, Mississippi in 1931, Hubert Charles Sumlin, he died in 2011. He spent his last years basking in adulation from rock royalty, and he was voted in the top 100 guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. His wild jagged bursts of guitar fire, complimented Howling Wolf's other-worldly vocals, but Hubert did not stop making great music when Wolf died in 1976. When Hammond Scott recorded "Hubert Sumlin Blues Party" he surrounded Hubert with a stellar cast.
