Fantastic Johnny C
The Fantastic Johnny C (Corley) was born in South Carolina in 1943, where he lived until joining the Army, and moved to Norristown, PA. Joining a local gospel singing group, he was discovered by R&B producer Jesse James, who attended the same church. His first performance was at the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia, sharing a bill with Sam & Dave, the Vibrations and Joe Simon. Phil La of Soul released his only album, Boogaloo Down Broadway, “a mini-masterpiece of gritty soul containing the deep soul cuts”, including "Warm and Tender Love”, written by Bobby Robinson, released in 1968. Fantastic Johnny C’s music career was active in the 1960’s.
