Earl King

A true institution in New Orleans music, Earl was born in Earl Silas Johnson in 1934 and died April 17, 2003. He lived his whole life in New Orleans. As a teen he idolized Guitar Slim and learned Slim's repertoire to the degree that he replaced/impersonated Slim on a tour when Slim was incapacitated. Excelling as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Earl wrote "Those Lonely, Lonely Nights", "Big Chief", "Come On", and "Trick Bag" . His Blacktop recording "Glazed" paired him with supergroup Roomful of Blues and the collaboration earned a Grammy nomination. Earl recorded three albums for Black Top, 1988's Glazed, 1990's Sexual Telepathy, and 1993's Hard River To Cross. His works have been covered by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Palmer, Doctor John, Ronnie Barron, Anson Funderburgh, and Professor Longhair, just to name a few!
