Carl Sonny Leyland

One of England's greatest exports to the USA, Carl Sonny Leyland was born in South Hampton, England.  Please go to his website carlsonnyleyland.com to check out his recording history, awards, and accomplishments. I will share that Carl is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, and instead of sitting on his talents, he has openly encouraged and mentored many aspiring young pianists. He is discussed by Ricky Nye in both parts 1 and 2 of the interview in Episode 6 of Mambo Sauce. In that episode, Carl is featured on 4 cuts, and his versatility and strong vocals are displayed to full advantage. Amongst his many credits, Carl did stints with our friend Anson Funderburgh (see Episode 5 "The Black Top Story" and the fabulous Big Sandy and the Flyright Boys). Carl is in fine health and lives in Northern California. You may be lucky enough to see him perform, and our  Chicago area listeners should keep their eyes peeled for appearances there. He also holds the piano chair for the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly weekend every April!
