Buckwheat Zydeco
Born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1947, his real name was Stanley Joseph Dural Junior. Buckwheat was a childhood nickname given for his braided hair, which resembled the legendary Buckwheat from the Our Gang and Little Rascals TV programs. Beginning as an organist vocalist in successful soul bands, Buck was hired by zydeco legend Clifton Chenier. He became immersed in the accordion and zydeco style and broke off on his own around 1979. Buck's dynamic vocal and accordion styles were enhanced by a fabulous backing band that included Clifton Chenier alumni Buck Senegal on guitar. Buckwheat passed away in 2016, but he had a fabulous life and career. Blacktop recorded Buckwheat's 100% Fortified Zydeco in 1983 and includes "Buck's Nouvelle Jole Blon", which made it to the soundtrack of the major motion picture "The Big Easy" starring Dennis Quaid!
